Hello. I am more of a mech tech person than a gardener. I have lately found myself interested in growing vegetable matter. It has been quite a surprise. Kind of like when I realized that birds were no longer total yawn material but quite interesting and now I have a water feature, a bird bath, several diverse feeders and a whole lot of birdtivity. I saw today at the top of the water feature (the bog) an orange crowned warbler. First I have ever seen. A few weeks ago I saw a black and white stripped warbler! My cat killed it. My cat is now with a family that does nothing to attract birds! Well, dinner is just about ready so, K'bye.

I live in Encinitas, CA - just north of Del Mar - garden organically on 1 1/2 acres and am involved with a lot of school gardens. I spend a lot of time composting both conventionally and with worms and teaching others to do the same. I write about both gardening and the agro-ecology movement. I'm in the process today of building five (maybe more) raised beds. I will submit pics when completed.

Hi group. I live in Costa Mesa. I am new to gardening and flying by the seat of my pants. This past 2 years I have planted a Cara Cara Orange tree, Meyer Lemon tree, 2 pomegranate bushes, and a passion fruit vine. Oh, and onions and garlic on the patio. My goal this spring is to build a raised bed. Any advice on soil for the bed? How do I keep grass from growing up from the bottom??

hi Emily. I just got a few books on permaculture. I have a spot out here where I want to make a forest garden using the permaculture principles. Im still reading the books to make sure I can get it right. =)
